Last month I had an opportunity to accompany my friend Summer Gibbs (www.summergibbs.com) to The Bahamas for a destination wedding. I have photographed with Summer many times, but this was by far one of my favorite destination weddings. Mostly because we worked with one of the coolest couples ever, Mike and Kim. They kept me laughing throughout the entire day, especially on that dance floor.
My first marriage proposal captured on camera. Kim approached Summer and I the night before to clue us in to the surprise that Mike’s younger brother was going to propose after his toast. Even though we knew it was coming, I still cried. It was such a tender moment and I am so happy I was there to witness it. She said yes!
Now the reception was a little tricky being an open air terrace next to the beach. I had nowhere to bounce my flash, but I got creative by using the DJ lights to illuminate my background. I am very pleased with how the images turned out.
The next day Summer and I photographed the couple in what is commonly referred to as a “Trash-the-dress” session. I know most brides cringe at the thought of destroying their beautiful wedding gown for a few measly pictures, but trust me, it is worth it. And, besides, most brides purchase a separate dress specifically for this occasion. We found an old pirate ship for our first location. Mike really got into character, I love it!
Next we headed to a secluded beach 30 mins from the resort. I love the rocky beach shots!
We finished the session back at the resort in the infinity pool. I mostly assisted Summer with lighting equipment, but I was able to snap this shot.
Oh, this last one is just me passing the time at the pool our last day there.
Congratulations Kim and Mike!
